The research at the Institute for Materials Science (Chair of Materials Science CMS) at the Otto-Schott-Institute for Materials Research is based on three pillars:

  • Biomaterials/Bio-Inspired Materials - Materials for Life Sciences
  • Polymer Nanostructures and Thermodynamics - Soft Matter
  • Composites

The work focuses on the development of high-performance and functional materials and the understanding of structure-property relationships at the interfaces of these materials.

The methodological and analytical emphasis of the chair are in the fields of microscopy and spectroscopy methods (OM, SPM, TEM, SEM, XPS, SIMS, etc.).
